"I don't need love, I've got these bands" Gig Review

Sunday matinees are the best - you get just enough time after the event to hang out and still have time for sleep! On this occasion, the Megumi Acorda, Catshelf Records, and Alternatrip co-produced event delivered a load of music on a Sunday afternoon.

First up were new-comers Half/figurd with an all-original set - which was a surprise since all there previous sets have a mix of covers. It sounds like they're finding their identity. Next were the underrated indie rock band July XIV who finally performed for the first time in 2 years. They still know how to deliver a strong and tight set which should be the case from a set of veterans. Another live Eggboy set appeared to the delight of the irl internet crowd but the set sounded more whole this time around. We Are Imaginary are always a delight to watch as they played their crowd-pleasing hits back-to-back, knowing how to feed and feed off of the crowd. Last were Megumi Acorda flooding the basement with water from the audience's tears.

I do wish more prods would play afternoon shows - even on a Saturday. Personally, I enjoyed hanging out with my friends after the show which I usually don't do anymore because of how late shows end. On this night, however, I remember more the drunken conversations with my friends and getting introduced to other people - most notable was BP Valenzuela. And after everything, there was still enough time to get a couple more hours of sleep before work the next day.
